Faith is Like Rotisserie Chicken

“Faith is like rotisserie chicken”

Faith is one of my favorite subjects.  I have spent a lot of time studying and considering the subject and am getting more and more clear about how faith operates.

Every human being has faith.  Every time you sit in a chair you have faith that it will hold you up.  Every time you get in your car, you have faith that you will reach your destination.  You have faith that you will receive a paycheck or direct deposit on payday.  You exercise faith when you get into an airplane and expect it to take off and land safely.  This kind of faith is based on trust.  That’s why you don’t worry about whether any of the things I mentioned will work.  You just trust that they will based on previous experiences.

Everyone has a certain level of faith in God’s creation.  You know that the sun will come up in the morning and set at night.  You know that if you let go of a glass it will fall to the floor because there are laws in place that make it so, and you have learned to trust those laws.

Why is it then that we have a faith issue when it comes to the spiritual realm?  The reason is that spiritual things require a different kind of faith.  It is not a natural faith based upon logic and reason.  God’s kind of faith deals in the invisible.  It’s seeing something that is not seen by others in the natural.  Faith sees things in the spirit before they are seen with our physical eyes.  God’s kind of faith is based solely on His Word.  Faith takes God at His Word and needs no other proof.  According to Hebrews 11:1, faith IS the evidence of things hoped for and the proof of things unseen.  To a true believer, faith is all the evidence and proof he or she needs to have confidence that what God says already is.  It’s just a matter of time before it manifests.

Faith sees the unseen before it is seen!  Let’s take the promise of healing as an example.  The Bible says that “By His [Jesus’] stripes we HAVE BEEN healed.” (1 Peter 1:24; Isa. 53:5)  Let’s say someone is sick and the doctor proclaims that the sickness is terminal. Most people take the doctor at his word since he or she is the “authority” in this matter.  A true believer’s response is “NO, I have been healed by Jesus’ wounds.”  Yet, the symptoms persist and now what do you do?  Do you succumb to the doctor’s report and the symptoms being experienced, or do you stand on God’s Word?  Do you trust what God says or what the doctor and the symptoms say?

This is not an easy situation.  Especially since we have been trained to trust doctors and symptoms which involve our five natural senses.  So, what do we do?  Let me use a woman in the Bible as an example.  Her story can be found in Mark 5:24-34.  The woman was suffering from hemorrhaging for 12 years.  She spent all she had on doctors and only got worse.  She must of heard about Jesus and all the healings He performed.  Her hearing caused something to rise up in her.  That something was faith.  Romans 10:17 says that “faith comes by hearing….”  Her faith must have come from the testimonies of Jesus’ acts of healing.  When she heard that Jesus was near, she came to Him.  Then she said something extremely important, so read carefully.  She said to herself, “If I just touch the fringe of His robe I will be made well.”  Do you get it?  She saw herself healed before she actually received her healing!  She pictured her healing and then acted upon that inward picture.  Her confidence was based upon what she heard.

After her hemorrhaging ceased and her healing complete, she got Jesus’ attention.  What He said to her is amazing.  Jesus said, “Your faith has made you well.  Go in peace and be free from your affliction.”  How did she get healed?  She heard and had faith to act on what she heard and according to Jesus, her faith made her whole.  The woman’s faith was all the evidence she needed to persuade her heart to take action.  In a nutshell, that’s all faith is.  Faith is a fully persuaded heart (Romans 4:19-21).

So, why did I name this post “Faith is like a Rotisserie Chicken”?  Have you ever gone to the grocery store and seen those chickens turning and turning over those burners?   As they turn they bake until they are done.  That’s how faith works.  You must come to the Word (heat) and meditate on it (turning and turning) until your faith matures, and BAM!  What you are meditating on manifests!  It comes from the invisible to the visible.

Meditation is pondering, considering, musing, and imagining that what you are hearing is yours.  As you meditate, your heart is being fully persuaded.  Once the heart is persuaded, it’s a done deal.  If it’s healing you are meditating on, once the heart is fully persuaded that what God promised is true, you will have your healing.  The same with financial blessing or any of the other promises of God.  You don’t need to understand how this works, you just have to know that it does.  It’s like gravity; it’s a law.  It is the law of faith.

There is a portion in the Bible that illustrates this perfectly.  In Mark 4:24-29, Jesus give a parable of what the Kingdom of God is like.  It’s like a man who sows seed in the ground.  He sleeps and rises night and day and the seed he sowed grows.  He doesn’t know how it produces a crop all by itself.  First comes the blade, then the head (bud), then the ripe grain in the head.  That what faith looks like.  We meditate on a word (seed) and we sleep and rise until, before you know it, the crop is ready to harvest.

Faith requires patience.  In the illustration above, patience is demonstrated.  The farmer sows the seed, but it doesn’t manifest right away.  It takes time.  However, the farmer doesn’t worry, doubt, or fear because he trusts the process.  We too must trust the process of faith.

Faith is an amazing thing, but few experience true Biblical faith.  This is why there are so many sick and broke people in the church at large.  They don’t exercise their faith.  The Bible stays on their shelves.  How can you meditate on something you never open and read out loud?  Then, when an emergency comes, they run to the Pastor or Facebook and ask for prayers.  Faith is a process and if you are not in the process, your emergency may turn into a disaster that will require a miracle.  I believe in miracles, but it’s much better to live by faith.  It’s more peaceful and restful.  It’s the way God wants us to live.  Miracles are for the unbelievers.  A life of faith in God’s Word is for the believers.

So, now you know how faith is like a rotisserie chicken.  I hope this helps you understand the process of faith and compels you to pursue a life of faith in God’s Word. I pray that you will take the time to build yourselves up in your most holy faith.
