Is it Time to Move Your Tent?

God spoke to Abraham after Lot left him and said:

“Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west, for I will give you and your offspring forever all the land that you see.  I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted. Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.”

So Abram moved his tent and went to live near the oaks of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the Lord.

I love this portion of the Word.  God made a promise to Abraham.  He told him to look at the promise from the place he currently stood.  This is important, for no matter what your situation, God wants you to look at His promises from where you are right now.  Are you sick?  Are you in lack?  Do you face an impossible situation?  God has promises to take you from where you are to a place of health and abundance.  However, you must start from where you are. Look at God’s promises.  Look at them from every angle, the north, south, east and west; meditate on them, ponder, and consider them just as God instructed Abraham.

After decreeing the promise, God told Abram (I will henceforth refer to him as Abraham) to GET UP AND GO!  Leave where you are, move toward the place of promise.  For us, we must act as though we already possess the promise.  We are to think and talk like we have already received His promises.  We imagine having what we do not yet possess in the physical form.  We walk through all the Scripture that contain the promises we are seeking.  In due time, we will possess what we imagine we already have!

When God promises something, He will perform it!  Nothing is more sacred to God than His name and His Word.  You can trust that He will do exactly as He promised.  Our job, if you can call it that, is to receive the promise by faith and that requires action.

After God proclaimed His promise to Abraham, he acted on that word.  Abraham moved his tent!  The question for you is, where have you pitched your tent?  Are you comfortable where you are?  I have observed that Christians build up certain tolerances and become able to put up with where they are.  They tolerate sickness, disease, pain, lack, poverty, shortages instead of saying, “Enough!”  They tend to stay where we are and comfort ourselves with self-talk that justifies their current condition.

God is not honored when we pitch our tent and are unwilling to move from where we are to where He wants us to be.  We need to get up and move!  Pull the stakes out of the ground and pack up; it’s time to GO!  As we move, God will intervene, go ahead of us a prepare a blessed place for us.  This will cause us to do what Abraham did, build an altar to the Lord, an alter of praise of thanksgiving.

When we act on God’s promises we find ourselves in a place of rest and intimacy with God.  God loves it when we trust Him and prove it by our actions in response to His Word.  The result is always fulfillment.  We are fulfilled within by God’s love and satisfied without by the manifestation of His promises.

It’s sad that the MAJORITY of Christians have pitched their tents in a place short of God’s calling.  A place short of fullness and satisfaction.  Many are sick, broke, depressed, frustrated, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled.  Why?  They don’t know God’s promises are for THEM and they are not willing to move in order to discover the reality of those promises!

What is God’s Word?  God’s Word is the initial manifestation of His promises!  God’s Word is stage one.  Stage two is when God’s Word produces faith in our hearts which brings us to stage three—patience.  Right after patience is stage four—MANIFESTATION!  Folks, that’s just how it works 100% of the time.  This is the formula for experiencing fulfilled promises.

I challenge you to do what Abraham did.  Consider God’s promises from the north, south, east, and west.  Then pull up the stakes of your tent and move!  There you will find intimacy with God as He speaks His Word into your heart to build your faith and perseverance until the promise is manifest in your life.  It’s simple, but not easy.  Just toughen up and do what is necessary to work the formula, live the good life to bring honor and glory to God.  Always remember, God delights in your prosperity (Psalm 35:27; Deuteronomy 30:9).
