I know that writing this will cause reaction, both positive and negative. However, I feel compelled to present my understanding of this truth.
I hear Christians in certain circles poke fun of or get down-right upset over the subject of “naming it and claiming it.” They can’t believe that all you have to do is name what you want, claim it as yours and it will come to you like a special delivery from Heaven. To them that thought is absurd. Who would believe this junk? It doesn’t make any sense to their natural mind.
Then there are those who actually tried naming what they wanted and claiming it as theirs and NOTHING happened. Therefore, they concluded it just doesn’t work and joined the crowd of naysayers.
But some Christians believe it, practice it and experience the power of naming and claiming what they want. They do not doubt that what they claim will come to them.
So, what’s up with this “name it and claim it” stuff? Is it real or hocus-pocus? Well, I believe that it is very real. I will now address this matter for anyone who is open-minded to hearing the truth.
The verses that are often referred to when discussing this subject are Mark 11:22-23. To better understand what Jesus was saying I am going to break them down phrase by phrase.
Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God. I assure you: If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” (HCSB)
Jesus replied to them—What was Jesus replying to? Peter had just reacted to seeing a withered fig tree that had died from the roots up. He had heard Jesus speak to the tree previously, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.”
Have faith in God—This word, according to the original language, means “Have God’s faith.” The faith that Jesus was describing here was not the natural faith that every human being has by birth. He was telling His disciples to have God’s faith, a supernatural faith.
I assure you—This is a very strong statement. It is a guarantee given by the Son of God. He was about to tell them what will happen if they obeyed the following instruction.
If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea—Here Jesus is emphasizing that ANYONE can speak to their mountain. He is not telling them to pray about the mountain, but rather SPEAK directly to it. You TELL it what to do.
“And does not doubt in his heart—This is vital. For the mountain to do what you say, there must be NO doubt in your heart. No hesitation. No “I hope so” attitude. You must be fully persuaded of the power that is present in what you say.
This begs the question: Can doubt and faith exist together? I say it can. James 1 says that “an indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.” Indecisive means I believe in my mind, but there is doubt in my heart. The doubt in your heart crosses out what your mind believes. Consequently there is no movement in the mountains in your life.
But believes that what he says will happen—This implies that you have total, 100% confidence that what you SAY will happen! There is NO DOUBT about it! You remain steadfast in believing what Jesus said. You will not budge from His Word! You believe that what you say will happen and, by God, it will (I mean this literally).
It will be done for him—Who is going to do what you say? Not you! Jesus said that what you say will be done FOR you. Don’t worry about how or when, just know that it will happen. You have mixed God’s Word together with pure faith. God will do for you what you have said based on your faith.
Therefore, I tell you, all things you pray and ask for—believing you have received them, you will have them—Here Jesus is saying that every single thing you pray or ask for you must believe you have already received it. Then you will have what you say.
This passage is one of the most powerful in the Bible. It says that there is God-like power in your words. God spoke the creation into existence and upholds it by the Word of His power. He created us in His image and likeness to be like Him. So, in the same way our words have the power to create our future.
In Matthew 12:36-37 Jesus said, “I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned.” And some say our words don’t have power? I believe Jesus will not play a tape recorder of what we have said in our lives. He will take one look at us and know what we have been saying. The life we created by our words will acquit or condemn us.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” There is creative power in our words. Our words, according to science produce physical energy. This energy is the power to create what we say. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen in due time.
In conclusion, can we name it and claim it? It all depends on your faith! Do you believe in your heart and have no doubt? Or is your mind believing one thing and your heart believing another? This and this alone will determine if what you say will happen. One thing is certain, whatever you say will work either for or against you. Therefore, use your words to avoid a mediocre life. Create a successful one!
