Show Me Your Glory

Glory & Goodness of God

How many Christian have asked, even begged God to show them His glory and nothing apparently happened?  I am one of them…so I thought.

My definition of the glory of God is God expressed.  I always thought when God’s glory showed up it was accompanied by something miraculous like power, light, smoke and fire.  I thought that people could not even stand when God’s glory appeared, and sometimes this is true.  But what I have come to know if something very different.

One day the Spirit reminded me of Moses asking God to see His glory.  In Exodus 33:18 Moses asked God, “Please, let me see your glory.”  Wait a minute!  Didn’t Moses already see God’s glory in the burning bush on Mt. Sinai?  Didn’t Moses experience God’s glory when His own finger wrote on the tablets of stone the 10 Commandments?  Moses saw power, light, smoke and fire, yet he still asked to see God’s glory.  What is that all about?

After Moses asked to see God’s glory, God responded with something quite interesting that has changed my life forever.  God responded to Moses request by saying, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim the name of Yahwah before you.  I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”  Do you see it?  Moses asked to see God’s glory and God responded with saying that He will show him His goodness!  From this I have learned that God’s glory is expressed in His goodness.  This was a big revelation to me.  It opened my eyes to look at all the goodness of God in my life and to know that I have seen and do see His glory every single day!  Praise the Lord!

God is good, and He strongly desires you and I see His goodness and live in His glory (manifest presence).  When glory shows up, goodness manifests!  Getting up in the morning is an expression of God’s goodness.  Provision is a manifestation of His goodness.  Health is a manifestation of His goodness and so is healing.  All the beautiful and good things we take for granted every single day is God manifesting His glory.

The apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:8, “Whatever things are true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise—dwell on these things.”  This is an invitation to focus on the goodness of God and experience His glory!

Peter wrote in His second letter something amazing, “His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.  By these [His glory and goodness] He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them [His promises] you may share in His divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desires (2 Peter 1:3-4).”  Here is see God’s glory and goodness linked yet again.  To put it plainly, when we enjoy and acknowledge our Papa’s glory and goodness though his great and precious promises, we actually are partaking of His very divine nature!  Isn’t this AWESOME!

Our pastor, Gary Keesee, recently said that the Lord told him to tell the people that “He [God] is incredibly good.”  He is good beyond belief!  God wants us to know His goodness and to do so our eyes must be opened to all the good things in our lives.  In return we need to acknowledge them, thus giving the Lord the glory due Him.

So, you see, God’s glory is all around us in plain sight!
