The Blessing of Abraham is Your Blessing Too!

Living the Blessed Life

The most pivotal person in the Bible other than Jesus Christ was Abraham.  Through Abraham a God-way of living was established.  Abraham illustrated the kind of life God expects all His people to live.  God made a promise to Abraham (Abram) and Abraham responded to Him by faith.

Go out from your land, your relatives and your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you.  I will curse those who treat you with contempt, and all the peoples of the earth will be blessed through you. ~Genesis 12:1-3

Abraham responded to an amazing promise made to him by God.  He believed God and left all that was familiar to him behind.  Why?  Abraham was reward-minded and the reward was worth the risk to follow God’s Word.

What is faith?  According to Romans 4:21, faith is being fully convinced that what God promises He will do.  Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is evidence or proof of things unseen.  Faith is seeing the invisible as though it is visible.  It energizes one to take action based on what he or she sees in their heart.  Faith appears to be unreasonable and illogical.  Faith does not operate by our five senses, but is guided only by God’s promises.

Through Abraham, God has shown us how we are to live.  When we live by faith we will experience and enjoy the blessing of Abraham.  Whatever God promised Abraham is ours today, by faith.

The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus, so that we could receive the promised Spirit by faith.  ~Galatians 3:14

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to promise.  ~Galatians 3:29

The blessing of Abraham is awesome!  It includes making us and our name great.  It includes all God’s blessings and protection from those who treat us wrongly.  Some of God’s promised blessings are found in Deuteronomy chapters 8, 28, 29 and 30.  This is what the blessing could look like in our lives today:

We increase, enter into and take possession of our promised land (possessions).  This land is vast and filled with riches.  We live in beautiful homes; our businesses increase along with our gold and silver and God causes us to prosper.

The blessings come and overtake us.  We are blessed wherever we are and wherever we go. Our descendants are blessed and everything we have is blessed.  Our bank accounts are blessed and the Lord establishes us as His holy people.   When people see us, they will know we are called by God and stand in awe of us!

All the work of our hands is blessed.  We lend to others and never have to borrow.  The Lord makes us the head and not the tale.  We only move upward and never downward.  We succeed in everything we do.  The Lord delights in our prosperity.  I challenge you to read these chapters of the Bible and see for yourself what God has promised.

Abraham faced impossible situations, but he learned to trust God and His Word with no other visible proof.   God took Abraham on a journey to build up his faith to the place that the impossible became possible. He was a man who believed God with no doubt in His heart.

How does the impossible become possible?  We must take the Word of God and be fully persuaded in our heart that God will do exactly what He promised.  God then responds to our faith by manifesting that promise in our life.

Jesus Christ made it possible for us to live a blessed life. Based on God’s Word you don’t have to be sick and broke.  By faith we can enjoy the blessing of Abraham and live in perfect health and abundance.

I encourage you to become a “Word Person.”  A Word Person is a person that ponders and meditates on God’s Word DAILY.  When faced with a problem, get immediately into the Word to find out what God has to say about it.   Then you take that word and stand on it by faith.   You will not give up until it becomes a reality in your life.  Do what Abraham did—live by every Word that proceeds out from the mouth of God.
