Freed From Distractions & Occupied with God

Limit Distractions

We live in a technology-filled society and I will be the first to say that I enjoy the latest modern technological advances.  However, at the same time technology has become a tool to be used by God’s enemy to keep us occupied and distracted from what is really important.

I see people in their cars, walking down the street or sitting in restaurants totally absorbed by their smart phones.  More and more people would rather text than talk.  Communication between people is not getting better, but rather is breaking down.  People skills are being replaced by APPS!

I believe distractions including being occupied with our smart phones are leading us away from God.  Instead of seeking God for advice and direction, we search the world over for answers.  We seek satisfaction from our smart phones.  We go to Google for more situations.  It’s so easy to text a friend for advice instead of asking the Holy Spirit. God is systematically being replaced by technology.  We are drifting further and further away from the source of all goodness.

What could be more rewarding than direct communication with God, the Source of all things? Who could possibly have more answers than Him?  Every morning I wake up and make a conscious decision to do two things:  Get into the Word of God and pray in the Holy Spirit.  Nothing in my life is more satisfying than this activity.  It is when I am with God in His Word and praying in the Spirit that I find all the direction I need to navigate through this life in perfect joy and peace.

When I feel sick, I seek God in His Word to receive my healing.  When there is a financial need, I confess God’s Word and pray in the Spirit. I have direct communication with the Creator of the universe, and so can you!

First, make a decision to put down your phone and pick up your Bible.  You may say, “I have the Bible on my phone,” but remember that phone has kept you distracted from fellowship with God!  I believe reading the written Word on real paper will help break the bonds of our affair with smart devices.  So, until you learn to have dominion over your smart phone, I suggest you lay it down and pick up your Bible!

Second, make a decision to pursue a relationship with God.  There are two ways to communicate with Him:  One is to fellowship in your native language and the other is through your prayer language (praying in tongues).  You may say, “I don’t have a prayer language” or “I don’t believe in tongues.”  There was a time in my life when I didn’t believe tongues were for us today.  I was taught that praying in tongues was unimportant and for baby Christians.  For over 40 years I avoided the subject of tongues like the plague! But, by God’s mercy I was connected to ministries that taught the truth about tongues and our prayer language.  After studying and receiving revelation from God I began to seek and desire to know my prayer language and learn to pray in it.  Thank God that eventually I did!

If you are born-again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, you HAVE been given a prayer language.  It is inside of you waiting to be released.  It’s YOUR language, specific to you; given by the Holy Spirit.  He wants to pray through you to God in a mysterious language that God fully understands and answers 100% of the time.  However, this article is not about tongues.  If you would like to learn more, there are plenty of excellent resources out there.  One of the best resources I have found is by Dave Roberson.  His book, THE WALK OF THE SPIRIT, THE WALK OF POWER, is doctrinally sound and will help you to understand and activate the power of God within you.  The book is free on Amazon or you can go to his website by clicking here.

It’s time to take time to get close to God.  It’s time to DECIDE to set aside the distractions and learn to develop a close and intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.  You will be amazed how your life will change and improve once God intrinsically involved in every aspect of your life through a strong relationship with Him.
